The Tale of Katie and Josh
Let me tell you a bit about Katie and Josh.
As a personal trainer in the not too distant past, I used to meet Katie for bootcamp every Saturday morning. In amongst our social chit chat of the week that was, she'd update us on her new found exploration of Tinder, and educate us on how it all worked. Some weekends we'd hear about the date she'd been on and how he wasn't quite her type, but then one weekend was different.
She'd say things like "He's into reading" and "I think I like him...". Always followed by "But we'll see". Flash forward a few years, and they've swiped right into each others' lives and couldn't have been a better match.
Being a close friend of this beautiful couple, and having seen their love blossom from the digital world, to camping holidays, overseas travel and moving in together, it was an honour to have been asked to design something special for their big day.
The first place I always start with any wedding design is a love logo and style sheet. It helps us gather our thoughts in terms of the wedding vibe ideas spinning around your head, and gives our couples a measuring stick for colours, fonts and consistency. For Katie and Josh, we wanted to represent Josh's last name Fox, their love of reading and literature, bright fun colours, and the northern lights that they got engaged under.
We ended up with a fun Foxy love heart logo, bold statement colours, and a tribute to their home library and love of reading.
The next step was to apply Katie and Josh's style to their wedding invitations, and they opted for one of our bespoke invitation booklets. Here we could include all the information that their guests would need, from dates and venues, to gifts and kids.
Combined with a pretty neat design, we had some fun with the words. We set up the booklet as if it was a novel, and included personal touches that would keep on giving no matter how many times you flipped through the booklet.
Foreword: She liked books. She would read every day if she had the chance. He liked them too, and his wild heart longed for the day when he could curl up with the girl who would read alongside him. Little did they know, their love would soon blossom to need a whole library. And there were not enough bookmarks to keep track of the adventures they would have together.
Katie and Josh also requested some great quotes throughout their booklet. From Agatha Christie, to Douglas Adams, we were able to personalise the booklet with some excerpts that meant a lot to them, and fit the party theme.
“There are moments, Jeeves, when one asks oneself, ‘Do trousers matter’?”
P.G. Wodehouse, The Code of the Woosters
The super convenient thing about our invitation booklet option, is that everything is together in one place. So when it came to RSVP's, what to wear, what to do with the kids, and that awkward conversation about gifts, we had it covered.
Dress: Smart casual. More than the gym, and less than meeting the Queen.
We even included a map to the ceremony and reception venues, which were an easy slip into a cute wedding clutch or handbag on the day.
Sly Fox tips: The reception will take place in the main foyer, near the bay windows. If you reach the dinosaur, you’ve gone too far.
The final piece of the puzzle was an envelope. Katie and Josh could send out advance reading copies of this best selling love story to their official book club, and we've heard that the members have been utterly giddy with excitement.
Our book review? We couldn't put it down.
